29.04.2022 Featured Former Bankers Bag Jail Terms for Stealing N2.9m from Deceased’s Account

Justice Elias Abua of the Federal High Court in Calabar, Cross River State, has handed Titus Chima Nwankwo and Utibe-Abasi Ifiok George, two former bankers, prison sentences on Friday, after stealing N2,900,000 from a deceased’s account in 2019.

The former bankers were said to have stolen the said amount from an account belonging to Godfried Godwin Osso, a deceased customer.

According to a tweet by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, both Nwankwo and George also worked in conjunction with Daniel Akpan Eno and Mbuk Idongesit, who are already serving sentences on the same case, while committing the crime.

The two bankers had initially escaped the clutches of the law at the time both Eno and Indogesit were being tried in 2021.

The court convicted Nwankwo and George after pleading guilty to one-count separate charges bordering on forgery, conspiracy, breach of trust and stealing

George was eventually sentenced to three months imprisonment with an option of fine of N100,000 while Nwankwo bagged three months imprisonment with an option of fine of N50,000.
