Benedicta Christopher, a Lagos State resident, has narrated to FIJ how hoodlums attacked her house, and inflicted knife wounds on her on Monday morning.
Christopher said she was in her house at about 10:15 AM when she heard a loud sustained bang on her door.
When she made to open the door, she overheard the hoodlums conversing in Yoruba and Pidgin English, describing her as an Igbo person, and cussing at her while demanding she opens the door.
This, she said, happened two days after the general election when an unknown man threatened her saying, “Very soon, it would no longer be ‘Ghana-must-go’ but ‘Igbo-must-go.'”
She told FIJ she had voted on Saturday, and on her way home, the man threatened her, but she did not think too much of it. No fewer than five men attacked her afterwards on Monday.
“I heard banging on my door, and thought it was someone looking for me, so I made to open the door,” Christopher told FIJ. “Then I heard someone say in Yoruba, ‘Sho wa sure say o wa inside?’ which means, ‘Are you sure she is inside?’
“They started shouting, ‘Come outside werey, come outside omo Igbo‘. Another one kept responding, ‘She de inside, she de inside.'”

She said they went around the back of her apartment, and she quickly closed her curtains so they don’t see her inside.
“They stayed outside for a while, and I started reaching out to people via Whatsapp and Twitter,” Christopher added. “My sister said she would send help, but the security guard from the bank she works in did not arrive in time.
“I then noticed they were talking in a distance away from my door, so I saw it as an opportunity to dash out. I ran out, and they chased me. They used a knife on me, and I sustained cuts. There were about five or six.
“I can no longer go home until I am safe, We called the police but they did not arrive.”
Speaking about the threat she received on Saturday, she said the man who threatened her “came out of nowhere, and asked why I did not go to my village to vote but chose to vote in Lagos”.
