On June 27, Muck Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, launched Threads, a social media platform, to rival Twitter which has suffered several unpopular reforms since Elon Musk, its new CEO, took over.
The latest in the list of reforms by Musk was the limit on the number of Tweets users could read per day, and this angered a lot of users.
Musk stated that to address data scraping and system manipulation, verified accounts on his app would see up to 6000 tweets per day, while unverified accounts would only get 600 posts and new unverified accounts would only access 300.

Over Musk’s latest move, millions of tweeps showed enthusiasm to migrate to Zuckerberg’s Threads after it was made accessible to Android users on Thursday morning.
FIJ reviews Threads, the latest Meta app:
SIGN-UP
Threads, an Instagram app, was initially available for only iPhone users on the Apple Play Store, but it became accessible to Android users on Thursday morning.
Signing-up to the app with an android device is easy for anyone who already has an Instagram account. The app also gives the option of importing your existing bio from Instagram and using your existing IG username.
It also gives you the option of retaining your existing Instagram followers or having new ones.
POPULARITY
Seven hours after Threads’ release, Zuckerberg announced on the platform that over 10 million subscribers had signed up.
FIJ’s check revealed that some popular foreign platforms and celebrities, including CNN, Aljazeera, Nas Daily, Wizkhalifa, Netflix, Guinness World Records, Oprah Winfrey and Shakira, had already signed up to the platform.
Several prominent Nigerians, including President Bola Tinubu, Burna Boy, Samuel Perry (Brodashaggi), Linda Ikeji, Peter Okoye (Psqaure) and the United Bank for Africa (UBA) have also joined the migration to the latest social media platform.
SIMILARITIES
Some of Twitter’s unique features are also available on Threads, such as a love-shape ‘like’ button and the comment section.
In place of Twitter’s ‘retweet’ option, the new app has ‘repost’ but also gives users the opportunity to quote another person’s thread.
Just like Twitter for unverified accounts, users are not allowed to edit a post that has been published.

UNIQUENESS
Threads has peculiar features that allow users to switch directly to their Instagram account right from the app. It also does not show users the number of times their tweets have been seen by other users.
On Threads, verified (those who have been verified on their Instagram accounts) and unverified users can tweet lengthy posts in a thread, unlike Twitter where the words are limited to 280 per thread for yet-to-be verified accounts.
The new platform lacks the popular ‘space’ option, which gives Twitter users the opportunity to discuss varying topics as they interest them.
Users can’t also send private messages for now, as the feature is yet to be included in the app.
It remains to be seen how many exciting features from Twitter will be imported to Threads.
While there have been several social platforms like Bluesky, Mastodon, Clubhouse, etc., launched to replace Twitter, Threads seem to be the most popular of them all.
