The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) has taken responsibility for the attack on the Kuje Medium Sceurity Prison, Abuja, that occurred on Tuesday.

A video released by the Islamic State’s A’maq agency shows what looks to be a view of the Kuje jail with the sound of gunfire in the distance.

Commenting on the video, Tomasz Rolbecki, a scholar who focuses on insurgency activity in sub-Saharan Africa, ISWAP claimed the raid led to its forces “freeing dozens of prisoners.”
