The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has paid N9,000 to one of its polling officers (PO) in Oyo State five months after the presidential election.
An earlier report by FIJ revealed that INEC was still owing some members of its ad hoc staff for the presidential election in Ibadan.
One of the affected polling officers, who spoke with FIJ, said he only got a feeding allowance of N3000, while the electoral body withheld the main stipend.

He said the stipend for the presidential election was supposed to be N14,500, but he found that some individuals received N9,000 instead.
FIJ had reported that the PO’s payment was delayed because he had submitted digital bank account details (OPay) instead of a traditional bank account number.
Although the ad hoc staff eventually submitted his Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) account details in March, he was not paid. And even after several visits and calls to the local government where he worked, he did not get paid.
In response to FIJ’s inquiry regarding the delay, the SPO of the PO’s unit said INEC was not to blame because the affected workers failed to submit the required bank accounts.
However, the electoral body paid N9000 to the PO on Monday morning, four days after FIJ published a story on the delay.
In his message to FIJ on Monday, he said, “INEC paid me this morning around 11:06 am. They sent N9000 to my account. Thanks so much. I really appreciate FIJ for this and greater height in all areas.”
“I called them, and they said I should come for it. It was when I got to the INEC office that they transferred the money to my account.”
