The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has ordered Hudu Ari, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Adamawa State, to stay away from office.
The directive was communicated to Ari via a memo referenced INEC/SEC/442/V.II and signed by Rose Oriaran-Anthony, INEC secretary.
“I hereby convey the Commission’s decision that you (Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari), Resident Electoral Commissioner, Adamawa State, should stay away from the commission’s office in Adamawa State immediately until further notice,” the memo reads.

“The Administrative Secretary has been directed to take full charge of INEC, Adamawa State, with immediate effect.”

Supplementary election was held in the state on Sunday, which had Aisha “Binani” Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the incumbent governor of the state and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on the ballot.
Ari threw the country into confusion when he unilaterally declared Dahiru winner of the contest against the powers of his office and electoral guidelines.
FIJ earlier reported that the commission had rejected announcement by Ari and suspended the collation of results in the state.
