Ukeme Ime Sunday, a Rivers State resident, has narrated how Whestwind Technology, an Instagram vendor that deals in the “sale of home appliances, gadgets and furniture”, defrauded him of N48,000.

Sunday told FIJ that the Instagram vendor stopped answering his calls on March 4, after he made a N48,000 payment to the account he provided for the purchase of a deep freezer.

“I sent Whestwind Technology the N48,000 because I saw a small deep freezer that I liked on its Instagram handle,” said Sunday.

“After we agreed on the particular small freezer I wanted to buy, the handler of the page sent me an Opay account and asked me to send my payment into it.

“After making the payment and sending the receipt to the handle, whoever it was that was operating it stopped answering my calls. He or she also stopped responding to my messages on Instagram. I am yet to get a response from the vendor. The Instagram handle is definitely a fraud.

“I have been hearing of online fraudsters, but I never imagined that I would one day fall victim to one. Please, help me recover my money.”

When FIJ called 09122768824, the number on Whestwind Technology’s Instagram page, on Thursday, it was not available. A text message sent to the phone number and a direct message sent to the vendor’s Instagram page had also not been responded to at press time.

FIJ’s findings further showed that rather than provide a company account, the handle sent an Opay account number (9152734483) belonging to one Victory Osasume Austine.

Additional checks also showed that Whestwind Technology was never a registered business or company with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

Whoever is behind the running of the page may have been using the image of Westwind Technologies Ltd., a duly registered Delta State-based company, to defraud people.
