Edu’s suspension comes amidst public outrage following the diversion of N585 million from her ministry to a private account.

On January 5, a leaked internal memo revealed that the suspended minister approved the payment of N585,189,500 into a bank account belonging to Oniyelu Bridget Mojisola, a civil servant. The money was to be paid from the National Social Investment Office’s single treasury account (TSA).

The memo also showed that the money was for payment of grant for vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Lagos and Ogun States.
