@jqcouture, an X user, has recounted how police officers from the Ipakodo Police Station in Ikorodu assaulted and coerced him at gunpoint to give up his N1.5 million.

Narrating the harrowing experience on Twitter on Sunday, the tweep said that the officers intended to take the entire N1.5 million in his bank account but could not do so because of network issues and his daily transaction limit.

He said that he was returning from an event at 11 pm on Saturday and was at the entrance to the estate where he lives along Igbogbo Road when some police officers stopped him to search his car.

According to him, the police found nothing in the car but were not satisfied with their search and then asked him and his friend to get off the car for further search, which they did.

He said that after the incident, the police officers saw a tattoo on his friend’s body and immediately labelled them as cultists. As he tried to protest the accusation, an officer slapped and ordered him to remain in the back seat of his car. Next, the police officers turned and started driving towards Ogolonto.

“They drove us towards the bridge along Mile 12 all the way from Ebute Ikorodu, stopped there and then threatened to shoot me. I was handcuffed. They slapped me multiple times,” he said.

He said the officers unlocked his phone using his face identity and, without hesitation, went to the Piggy Vest banking app and made him withdraw N1.5 million from his FCMB account.

After successfully transferring his money from Piggy Vest to FCMB, the police then tried to transfer N1 million from the FCMB account out, but it was unsuccessful because his daily limit was pegged at a lower amount.

“They resorted to me making the transactions little by little because they said they would take all the money in my FCMB account. So, I made a transfer of N200,000, N100,000, N50,000, and N20,000 with the USSD code, then N20,000 from my PalmPay, a total of N390,000. And the money was sent to a Moniepoint account named Mummy T Ventures,” he said.

“They tried to withdraw all the N1.5 million from FCMB, but thank God a one-time password for OTP was not sent to my number due to network issues, so they made away with N390,000.

“I could not make any video because they were with our phones, but I recognise their faces. They are from Ipakodo police [station], they said. I’m still traumatised. Please, I need my money. It’s supposed to be added to my rent money.”

FIJ called Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Spokesperson, but got not response. FIJ also sent him a text message, but he had not responded as of press time.
