A man simply identified as Harrison, an indigene of Edo State, has spent two months at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison, Apapa, Lagos, after he was arrested during a raid conducted by officers of the Lagos State Police Command in January.
According to a series of tweets by Headfort Foundation, a prison reform initiative, on Tuesday, Harrison was walking along the 7-Up Bottling Company road in Ijora, Lagos, when the police officers arrested him.

“He fell victim to the unprofessional raid carried out by some police officers,” Headfort tweeted. “The police took him to their station at Ikeja and charged him with the offence to wit; ‘Breach of Public Peace.”’
The foundation added that Harrison was subsequently arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrate court on January 6. After the court admitted him to bail, Harrison was unable to perfect his bail conditions because he had no Lagos-based family member who could be his surety.
The court assigned the matter to Headfort on January 21, and Harrison was able to meet with one of the foundation’s lawyers.
It was also revealed that Kirikiri Prison officials refused to make Harrison available for hearing four times, despite the repeated issuance of reproduction warrants by his lawyers.
It took the intervention of the Magistrate Court to eventually produce Harrison on March 15.
“Our lawyer applied for the matter to be struck out by the court because the prosecution case had no case against him. The court upheld our application and struck out the matter. Harrison spent 2 months in custody for no just cause,” Headfort’s tweet further reads.
He was eventually released after spending two months in jail.
