09.06.2022 news NBS: 1,834 Nigerians Killed in Road Accidents in 3 Months

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that there were 5136 road accidents in Nigeria in the last three months.

The NBS made the revelation on June 8, blaming dangerous driving, brake failure, sleeping on steering and bad roads, among other causative factors.

The bureau also stated that 1834 Nigerians, 1487 males and 347 females, lost their lives due to motor vehicle accidents within the period.

“Looking at injuries sustained more males were injured compared to female during the period of review. In Q1, 7842 males were injured accounting for 76.18 per cent of 10,294 injured in total,” the NBS stated.

The commercial vehicles involved were 3635, which is higher than the 1648 private vehicles affected.

“On zonal basis, the north-central recorded the highest number of crashes in Q1 2022 with 1095, followed by the southwest with 887,” the NBS said.

The northwest also recorded 713 crashes and the southwest, 711.
