Following the news of the arrest and interrogation of Simon Ekpa, the Finland-based factional leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on Thursday, some Nigerians have submitted email petitions to the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation demanding his further detention and extradition to Nigeria.
Ekpa, who renounced his Nigerian citizenship in 2021, has been making use of his social media handles to encourage the exit of Igbo people from Nigeria and dish out extremist orders, including Monday ‘sit-at-home’, in parts of the southeast.
In a series of tweets on Friday, a tweep, @AfamDeluxo, encouraged Nigerians to write to the Finnish police via their official email address to investigate and bring Ekpa face-to-face with the law. He also provided an email address of Ekpa’s supposed political leader within the country’s National Coalition Party.

He said, “The Finnish Police will detain Simon Ekpa on Friday if thousands of Nigerians protest and testify to the police about the terrorist activities of Simon Ekpa. I will provide the email of the police and your part is to write a simple email to them calling for the detention and extradition of Simon Ekpa.”
Many Twitter users have responded to his tweet by submitting email petitions to the Finnish police. Upon receipt of their emails, the Northern European country’s police acknowledged and profiled same for consideration.
Another user, @justlyabel, said, “I wrote to them early this morning, this is the acknowledgement.”
@Chiceeeyyyy also wrote, “DONE!! pls[,] try and attach proofs of his tweets inciting violence and giving out sit[-]at[-]come order[.]”
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a socio-cultural group in the southeast, has described the Finnish councilor as an international terrorist, urging the Federal Government to extradite him to the country to answer for his acts of terrorism.

Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Ohanaeze’s secretary-general, told Daily Post that, “If truly the Finnish authorities arrested Simon Ekpa over international terrorism, then they should extradite him back to Nigeria where his killer gang is killing a lot of people. A lot of killings have been associated with Simon Ekpa in the southeast.”
In December 2022, thousands of people signed an online petition seeking the arrest and extradition of the Nigeria-born Finnish politician for his inflammable orders and actions, which many have linked to the killings and general instability in the region.
