Oluchi Njoku, a Nasarawa State resident, has accused the Access Bank branch in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state of complicity in the disappearance of N37,000 from her account.

Njoku told FIJ that she noticed the disappearance of the said amount from her account on August 5.

She also said when she demanded to know the reason the money ‘disappeared’, the bank’s branch could not give an explanation.

“I noticed on August 5 that some money was missing from my bank account. The bank account showed that I had N50,000, but I knew that I was supposed to have more than that. I checked my balance and noticed that N37,000 was gone,” Njoku told FIJ.

“I went to the bank the next Monday and met one of the customer care officers to let them know what had happened. The officer told me that the N37,000 was still in my account but it was ‘hanging’.

“I asked him how my money was hanging when I did not do a transaction. He said that he would check and confirm what really happened. I then collected his phone number.”

Njoku said the True Caller application showed that ‘Muftaudeen Ibrahim’ was the customer care officer who attended to her.

“Later, I called the same customer care officer (Ibrahim). He told me that a dubious transaction was initiated on my bank account and that he had reported it. I asked him who made the transaction and how it occurred because I know I didn’t do it. He couldn’t say. I called him on other occasions but that was all he told me.”

Njoku said her account’s ledger balance has continued to show that the N37,000 cannot be accessed by her.

When FIJ called Ibrahim on the matter, he said Njoku should contact Access Bank’s contact centre for a resolution.

“She (Njoku) needs to come to the bank or call our contact centre,” Ibrahim said on Friday.

Njoku on the other hand said she has been to the branch several times over the matter, but its officials have continued to give unsatisfactory responses.
