Ifeoma Athekame, a Lagos-based business woman, has accused an OPay worker identified as Stanley of collecting N50,000 from her for point of sale (POS) terminals without delivering them.
Athekame told FIJ that she contacted Stanley on January 15, after seeing his contact on a promo post indicating that an Android POS terminal could sell for N20,000. The terminal comes with a free mobile POS which makes it two, according to her.
Athekame said an email was sent to her on January 15, stating that she had completed her purchase.

“After I was told my merchant account was ready, OPay told me to fund it with a minimum of N30,000. According to the email, the N30,000 would serve as my capital,” she explained.
Athekame stated that she paid the N30,000 the following day and expected the POS machines to be delivered to her.
“Some days after the payment, I got a message from their delivery man. The message indicated that I had to pay a sum of N15,000 as delivery fee before I would collect the terminals. I told them I didn’t have that money. They were to deliver the terminals to me in Abuja from Lagos,” she told FIJ.
Athekame said OPay had earlier sent some screenshots of her merchant dashboard showing that she had a sum of N50,000 in her account, but the dashboard now shows that she has nothing.
“I have been trying to contact Stanley since that time, but he has been ignoring my calls and texts. Also, OPay never replied to the texts sent to them, and claimed I had no money in my merchant account,” she said.
FIJ placed several calls to Stanley, but his number was not reachable. Also, OPay and Stanley had not replied to emails sent to them at press time.
