Seven months after Joseph Saint German, a Port Harcourt City resident, was debited twice for failed N40,600 transaction, OPay has failed to refund the money.
Saint German told FIJ the incident happened when he wanted to withdraw N20,300 with his OPay visa card via a point of sale (POS) terminal on September 8, 2022.
“After the first withdrawal failed, I decided to try again. The second one failed as well,” he said.
Saint German said he was quite surprised when he received debit alerts from OPay for the two failed transactions.

“I immediately called the customer service and lodged a complaint about the money. I later lodged a complaint to OPay card management via the app,” he said.
“I saw that the customer service and the card management unit were not giving me positive responses. Instead, they were playing delay tactics with me. I still sent an email to them.
“They promised to reverse the money after five working days. Till today, I have not received the money.”
The Port Harcourt City resident said OPay seemed to want to scam him out of his N40,600, as the company had failed to reverse the money for months.

“I have requested for a journal from OPay to know the exact account the money dropped into. But OPay has failed to give me evidence or proof to show where the money is,” he said.
When contacted on Wednesday, Femi Hanson, OPay communications lead, told FIJ that the bank had taken action on the issue.
“We have escalated the issue above and contacted our partner bank,” he said.
