A train heading to Lagos from Ibadan ran out of diesel, leaving its passengers in the bush for more than an hour.

In a video made available to FIJ, some of the passengers were seen sitting on the rail track in what looked like a remote location.

“The train took off from Ibadan this morning, heading to Lagos. It was when it got to somewhere in Abeokuta that the incident happened. My colleague’s sister, who happened to be on board, was left stranded for more than an hour,” a source, who asked not be named, told FIJ.

“According to her, passengers were made to understand that the train had run out of diesel. We are in a delicate period in which incidents like this are not supposed to be happening. What if the passengers got attacked by criminals and ritualists?”

FIJ later gathered that railway officials were able to get the train back on track after about an hour.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time a train would break down this year. On January 31, passengers traveling from Kano to Lagos spent over 32 hours in the bush after the train they boarded developed a mechanical fault.
