A furniture shop in Ire Akari Estate, Soka, Ibadan, has gone up in flames.
According to a tweet shared by Eons Intelligence on Monday, the fire started around 3 pm.
“The fire was started by an apprentice of the shop burning pieces of waste furniture,” said a community member who asked not to be named.
“As he was burning, the fire extended to a piece of clothing and because it was dry season, it spread through the entire shop quickly.”
The source further said that two other shops close to the furniture store were burned in the furnace.
“The shop was a big shop and everything in it got burned. Only a few pieces of furniture outside the shop were salvaged,” said the source.
“Alongside the furniture shop, two other shops in the vicinity were also badly affected.”
FIJ understands that the fire has now been put out, but the extent of damage caused to the three shops is yet to be ascertained.
