Yinka Adenuga, a car dealer in Surulere, Lagos State, has been allegedly arrested and detained by Emmanuel Edet, a military officer at the Bonny Military Cantonment, Victoria Island over a vehicle purchase dispute.

Edet, who was said to be acting on the instruction of an unnamed senior military officer, arrested Adenuga on April 14, after accusing him of selling a ‘stolen vehicle’ to boss.

It was also said that the dealer’s phone was seized, preventing him from having access to his family members.

Christopher Ogbonna, Adenuga’s friend, told FIJ that the dealer recently sold the car to the senior military police officer after buying it from a fellow car dealer seven years ago.

“On April 14, one Lt. Alexander Emmanuel Edet led a team of army personnel to arrest Adenuga at his Surulere office. The officer said he was acting on the instruction given to him by superior,” Ogbonna said.

“He was taken to Bonny camp and has been locked up at the 65 battalion guard room since then.

“Edet accused Adenuga of selling a stolen vehicle to his boss, saying that was why he was being detained.”

FIJ further gathered that on Tuesday, Adenuga’s family went to the cantonment to demand answers but noticed that the dealer was no longer in the cell where he was initially kept.

It was also revealed that Edet refused to disclose the dealer’s new location to them.

When FIJ contacted the Officer in Charge of the military police in Bonny, who simply identified himself as ‘Captain Yakubu’, he said:

“We don’t have any Emmanuel Edet as an officer here. But I will look into it.”

FIJ also made several calls to Emmanuel Edet but he did not answer them. He had also not replied to an SMS sent to him at press time.
