Doctors and nurses at Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) suspended work over violence on the hospital premises on Monday.
A student at the hospital, who asked not to be named, said that the touts invaded the accident and emergency unit of the hospital and escaped with a man’s corpse.
“Some touts invaded the accident and emergency unit. They damaged a lot of stuff and escaped with their dead father,” said the source.
The source said the attack was a protest from the deceased’s relatives, who felt the hospital should not have taken blood samples from him.
“The deceased had anaemia, and the doctors on duty told the relative that they had to collect blood samples for testing,” the source said.

“But the relatives got so agitated that how would the health workers take blood samples from someone who already lacked it?”
The source further said that the relatives blamed his death on the doctors because of the sample they had drawn.
“The relatives then felt it was because of the samples that were taken that caused his death,” the source said.
“This led them to attack the health workers on duty. Those ones are now currently on strike as we speak.”
