Olawale Oladapo, a Lagos State-based medical doctor, has recounted how United Nigeria Airlines withheld his N266,000 after it rescheduled a Lagos-Abuja flight he was supposed to travel with.
Oladapo told FIJ that the incident happened as he was about travelling with two of his colleagues to the country’s capital in February.
“In February, I booked three Lagos-Abuja return tickets with United Nigeria Airlines, but the departure time for the flight was later rescheduled by the airline,” said Oladapo.
“The time the airline rescheduled the flight to was not okay for me and my colleagues, so we had to fly to Abuja with another airline. If we had not done that, we would not have been able to attend the event we went for.

“I later filled a refund form with United Nigeria Airlines, hoping the money I paid for the ticket would be processed and sent back to me as soon as possible, but the airline has failed to do that.”
The medical doctor said he subsequently sent several emails to the airline but did not get any positive response from its officials.
“When we had a cause to travel to Abuja again, I approached their counter at the Lagos Airport to ask if we could still make use of the ticket but was told by the official I spoke with that the tickets had been flagged,” said Oladapo.
“Presently, United Nigeria Air has stopped responding to my mails and has also continued to hold on to my N266,000 since February.”
When FIJ sent an email to the airline’s customer service desk for comments on Monday, one of its officials, who simply identified as Sylvaline, said a reminder had been sent to the appropriate team on the matter.

“This is to acknowledge the receipt of your mail. We sincerely apologise for the delay in refunding the money. Kindly note that we have forwarded your mail as a reminder to the appropriate unit for resolution,” wrote Sylvaline.
When FIJ further contacted Oladapo yesterday to ask if he had once again heard from the airline, he said they were yet to get back to him.
“The airline’s officials have been dragging their feet on the matter since February,” he said.
