Chimchettam Emesorom (not real name), an Abuja resident, has told FIJ how United Nigeria Airlines withheld his luggage fee refund for more than two years.

Emesorom told FIJ that he paid the airline N10,000 with his Guaranty Trust Bank card for his luggage on December 14, 2021, but the transaction status showed it failed.

He said he retried the transaction on another point of sale machine belonging to the airline company and it went through. He later realised his bank had debited him for the first transaction which seemingly appeared to have declined.

“I went to my bank and filled a form for charge back but they asked me to come back after eight working days. I went home and reached their Twitter handle. They asked me to fill out some forms, which I did,” Emesorom told FIJ.

“Few days later, I received two receipts emanating from the United Bank for Africa, United Nigeria Airlines’ bank. I was told to contact the merchant for a refund since the airline’s bank accepted that they got the money and hence charge back was declined.

“But I’ve been appealing to the airline since 2021 for the refund of my N10,000 only. I’m yet to receive the money.”

United Nigeria Airlines asked for details when FIJ emailed the company for comments on the issue but, to date, Emesorom has not been refunded.
