A video showing policemen running over a man in handcuffs and dragging him through the road has circulated on social media.

In the video, obtained by FIJ on Thursday, a man can be seen lying down in the middle of a road in Ekpoma, Edo State, as policemen in a blue unmarked SUV run him over and drag him under their vehicle.

The clip begins with residents surrounding a stationary police vehicle with one door open. The driver of the vehicle then drives forward. The surrounding crowd begin to shout and make attempts to stop the vehicle. Some pelt the vehicle and its occupants.

Soon after, the vehicle comes to a halt, but one of its occupants, a policeman, runs out and takes to his heels. The cuffed man is under the vehicle.

The policemen begin shooting as though to dispel the gathering irate crowd, but the move is unsuccessful as the crowd drag the policemen out of the vehicle and begin beating them.

Reacting to the incident, Muyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, via a tweet on Thursday night, said, “This is unpolice[sic]. I don’t think a normal human being can do this. To crush a man with a car? This is unbelievable. I have personally contacted the CP Edo on this. We need to take urgent action on this matter. It’s strange to me as a person.”

FIJ called Chidi Nwabuzor, Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, on Friday, but he did not take our calls.
