Some supporters of Ademola Adeleke stormed Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, after an election tribunal sacked the governor on Friday.

In the 15-second video obtained by FIJ, the protesters are chanting, literally in the Yoruba language, “Come and look at the thief who stole someone else’s vote. He stole a a rich man’s vote. OPC (Oodua Peoples Congress).”

On Friday, Gboyega Oyetola, Adeleke’s opponent, was declared winner of the governorship election held on July 16, 2022, in the state.

The tribunal found that there was over-voting in some local government areas in the state and deducted the votes obtained from those areas from the overall votes obtained by both candidates.

Reacting, Adeleke, who was elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), described the ruling of the tribunal in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Adegboyega Oyetola as “a miscarriage of justice”, vowing to challenge the ruling at the Court of Appeal.

“I call on our people to remain calm,” he said. “We will appeal the judgement and we are sure justice will be done. Let our people be reassured that we will do everything possible to retain this widely acclaimed mandate.”
