Faith Ako, an affiliate marketer, has narrated how Wallets Africa, a cross-border payment platform, prevented her from withdrawing her money.
Ako told FIJ that she had signed up to use the platform’s services because she needed a virtual dollar card that could pay her bills.
“I came across Wallets Africa when I needed a virtual dollar card I could use to pay bills,” Ako told FIJ.

“The first time I used Wallets Africa, it was to fund a crypto trading site, but it was for a smaller amount and I hadn’t used it since then.
“Recently, I created a PayPal account through which I received foreign funds, and I needed to link it with a dollar card. I opted to use the virtual dollar card I had with Wallets Africa rather than get another one from the bank.”
Ako said after she linked the virtual dollar card with her PayPal account, she transferred N186,750 into her Wallets Africa account but was unable to withdraw the money.
“On January 4, I linked the dollar card with my PayPal account and transferred the money into it. It reflected on Wallets Africa’s portal that the transaction was successful, but I was unable to withdraw the money into my regular Nigerian account,” she said.
“I kept having withdrawal issues, as I was told I couldn’t transfer the money into my account.”
The Affiliate marketer said her attempts to reach out to Wallets Africa was frustrating, as no one responded to her and she was blocked afterwards.
“I reached out to their support mail but Google stated that it no longer existed. I suspect that it has been deleted. Also, the phone number on their website and their WhatsApp contact were not reachable,” she said.
“Even on Twitter, the messages I sent them were not responded to. I found the handle of Oluranti Oke, their CEO, and consistently sent him messages explaining my plight, but he blocked me.

“The same thing happened on Instagram; I found a comment section where other people had complained and they had been attended to. I did the same hoping that I’d get a solution, but I was blocked off their page too. I am currently stuck, with no way to access my funds.”
FIJ contacted Wallets Africa via Twitter and email for comments, but they were yet to respond at press time.
