Many Nigerians have strongly criticised the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) for posting a response lacking in empathy and professionalism on X.
Booming_king, an X user, had asked JAMB about the next step after his daughter’s fingerprints were not captured for the ongoing examination on Saturday.
“Candidates whose fingers could not be captured will not be rescheduled. The fingers that didn’t have problem at NIMC office during registration and was [sic] successfully captured during JAMB registration won’t suddenly develop issue during exam,” JAMB’s official handle responded on X.
“Candidates have been admonished to desist from the application of abrasive substances capable of distorting the whorls of their fingers prior the examination.”

The board’s response on X has attracted nonstop criticisms since Saturday.
Many Nigerians highlighted the lack of empathy and the unwillingness to help in JAMB’s post.
“Is there no institution in this country that has common sense, empathy, and good manners?” Kifo Mungu, a journalist, asked.
Temitayo O., a lawyer, made two posts. In one, he said that JAMB’s response was completely moronic.
“It’s one thing to have no capacity or sense of duty. It’s another to have nothing but hate, distrust and disdain for the people you’re appointed and paid to serve,” Temitayo posted.
“Completely moronic response…
“Show me one Nigerian institution that doesn’t treat the public as enemies. Just one. Zero intent or attempt to be of assistance. No common sense or empathy. Just hostility and sheer hate for everyone.”

Others questioned the level of professionalism at JAMB’s headquarters. Another commentator pointed out that the board could be subjected to class action if many others had been affected by similar communication from JAMB.
JAMB’s 2024 examination commenced on April 19, and it will conclude on April 29.
