Adeshina Ogedengbe, the founder of POS Technology and Digital Services Ltd., has accused Stephen Akintayo of GText Homes in Lagos of breaching a contract agreement between them by refusing to pay him a balance of N2.9 million.

Ogedengbe told FIJ that Akintayo was unwilling to pay him until the Force Intelligent Bureau (FIB) got involved.

The businessman said that he signed a N15 million contract on March 16, 2022, with Akintayo’s GText Homes to supply laterite sand to their Ikorodu Sapphire Estate, which he did according to their agreement.

He said a part of the contract stated that 45 days after supplying GText’s estate, after both parties must have signed the documents, Akintayo would pay him.

But on June 9, the date Akintayo was supposed to pay Ogedengbe according to the contract, he defaulted. Ogedengbe said GText Homes staff kept tossing him around but would not pay him.

“I had to contact him to know his stand on the conduct of his staff, but from our conversation, he knew about what was happening. He asked me to wait for 90 days, but I refused,” Ogedengbe told FIJ.

Akintayo promised to pay Ogedengbe after the meeting in July, but he never did, said Ogedengbe.

“I wrote to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) about the issue when he would not pay. The EFCC asked me to write to the police, which I did. It was then that I contacted the FIB,” he said.

“The police swung into action almost immediately. They helped me recover N12 million in three tranches between September and the first week of October.

“GText Homes promised to pay the last N2.9 million later, claiming they had some issues, but ever since, they haven’t been forthcoming.”

Ogedengbe said he regretted not heeding the warnings of other sand suppliers who had hinted at Akintayo’s unwillingness to pay people.

“I should have sensed the dishonesty earlier, but I ignored the signs. I paid for the payloader out of my pocket. After I had supplied, GText Homes staff informed me that I had brought black sand instead of red sand on two trips. But why didn’t they reject it?”

FIJ contacted Akintayo via his UK WhatsApp line on Wednesday, but he was yet to respond at press time.
