Melvin Oginni (not real name), a Lagos State-based civil servant, has detailed how Dana Air withheld his N45,000 after cancelling his flight seven months ago.
Oginni told FIJ that Dana cancelled his Lagos-Enugu flight in February. with a promise to return his money.
“On February 12, I booked a Lagos-Enugu flight with Dana Air. It was a one-way ticket,” Oginni said.
“Out of the blues, Dana Air suddenly sent me a mail to say the flight had been cancelled. The cancellation happened during the period the airline had an audit and that grounded the airline’s flight operations.

“After informing me of the cancellation, the airline also gave me an option of transferring my ticket.”

Oginni said that when the flight ban placed on Dana Air was eventually lifted, he asked for a refund.
“While demanding for a refund, I also later got to know that Dana Air had stopped flying the Lagos-Enugu route,” said the civil servant.
“During the period, they sent me a refund request form to fill. Despite filling and submitting the form to Dana Air, the airline has not made the refund till date.
“I have since exchanged up to ten emails with the airline’s officials, but they still will not pay me back my money. It has been seven months since the flight was cancelled.”

When FIJ sent an email to Dana Air for comments on September 27, one of the airline’s call centre executives, who simply introduced himself as Emmanuel, said the airline was working on refunding Oginni as soon as possible.
“We sincerely apologise for the delay in the refund process. Please be informed that we are working closely with the relevant unit to ensure this is resolved, and feedback would be provided,” wrote Emmanuel.
However, when FIJ contacted Oginni on Tuesday morning, he said Dana Air had still not made the promised refund.
