Men of the Nigerian Army and the Police have been deployed to communities governed by bandits affiliated to Boko Haram terrorists in Niger State.

In April, the security operatives had withdrawn from the Lakpma axis of Shiroro Local Government Area after bandits killed seven persons, including five soldiers.

The marauders had since controlled more than 200 communities in Lakpma and some other parts of Shiroro, terrorising the defenceless people.

FIJ had reported how bandits were “ambushing numerous road users who would occasionally go to their homes to fetch some foodstuffs for their upkeep” in their deserted communities.

However, on Tuesday, Yusuf Sani, the co-convener of Concerned Shiroro Youth, told FIJ the communities are now peaceful because troops were deployed to the bandits-governed areas following FIJ’s reports

“The Concerned Shiroro Youths, a leading and one of the most active Youths’ groups in the state, as it relates to campaign against insecurity, received with extreme joy, the news of the deployment of well-equipped Joint Security Task Force who are armed with assorted sophisticated weapons to insecurity-prone areas in Shiroro Local Government,” he said.

He also said the community leaders commended governments at all levels “for restoring security to Bassa and Kukoki Communities”.

“With this welcome development, we are enthusiastically confident that our people who are peaceful and law-abiding citizens and unfortunately have come under constant and sustained multiple deadly attacks by heartless, venomous, murderous and hydra-headed terrorists will now heave a sigh of relief.”
