Qatar Airways has refunded N973,633 to Gbenga Akintunde, a United Kingdom-based Nigerian student.

This came a month after FIJ reported how Qatar Airways refused to make a refund available to the student three months after he was forced to cancel a flight he had initially booked with the airline.

“After the story of how Qatar Airways refused to refund me was published in December, the airline reached out to me to say my refund would be available on or before January 27,” said Akintunde.

“I, however, received a credit alert of N973,633 this morning. This means that N129,775 was deducted from the initial N1,103,408 I paid for my flight ticket as penalty charge, after I was forced to cancel the flight I booked with the airline on September 19, 2022.

The student had to cancel the flight when he realised that his school’s resumption date was earlier than he had anticipated.

However, after the cancellation, and after arriving at his destination, Akintunde tried getting the airline to refund the flight ticket fee to him but his efforts amounted to nothing.

For several weeks, the airline told him that the refund was being worked on by its finance team, much to the frustration of the student.
