Chukwukadibia Vivian Ifeoma, who resides in Anambra State, has accused Cashlawn, a Nigerian loan shark, of defaming her.

Ifeoma narrated to FIJ on Saturday that she took a loan payable in two weeks from the fast-loan company and was paying according to the repayment plan until the cash crunch crisis hit the country.

The Anambra State resident also said that she explained the unexpected delay in paying the loan balance to Mary, the loan officer. Rather than show compassion or some little understanding, the loan officer abused the hell out of her.

“I have a profile with Cashlawn and I had obtained some loans from Cashlawn before. So, I applied for a loan of N7,000 on February 5. I was expected to repay it within two weeks, but the repayment deadline coincided with the shortage of cash in the country,” Ifeoma told FIJ.

“Before the deadline, I had repaid N7,000. A day to the deadline, Mary, the loan officer, called me and I explained my challenge to her. She refused to even listen to me. She resorted to cursing me.

“The lady said all the negative things in this world against me and promised to bully me and make me lose everything I had achieved in life.

“However, the payment deadline coincided with the national scarcity of cash in the country. I had a challenge getting money to pay the balance of N3,330 and Mary kept calling me. My explanation was met with aggression.

“I had never heard all the damaging things she spoke against me that day. I was literally crying, begging her to give me the grace to look for the money within a day and would pay the balance. I was heartbroken.”

Ifeoma said that among the people Cashlawn sent the message to was her employer. “My employer also received a short text from the loan firm and he became furious, telling me I had caused the company a financial embarrassment. Cashlawn has practically defamed me. I was almost depressed.”

Ifeoma speaking

Ifeoma said that after a phone conversation with her, a representative of the company sent a message to her over 2,000 phone contacts, calling her a fraudster and revealing her bank verification number (BVN).

“With the pressure on me, I paid the balance on February 17 and mistakenly paid in excess of N3,330. I informed Panti, the second agent that was communicating and abusing me, of the over-payment. He told me they wouldn’t refund it and said I couldn’t do anything against them,” said Ifeoma.

Surprisingly, the loan company credited Ifeoma with another N7,000 loan on Monday without requesting for it. “I don’t know what these people are up to. I just received another loan credit from them,” said Ifeoma. “How would I have applied for another loan when I was still living with the trauma of the first one?”

“I would deduct the excess I paid them on the first loan and return the balance to them without wasting time.”

Panti and Mary, the company’s representatives, had not responded to FIJ’s text messages at press time.
