The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may be facing its biggest test in its history.

Charged with conducting and transmitting results for the 2023 general election, one in which the number of registered voters are at an all-time high, the expectations are through the roof.

The pressure on the commission continues to mount as concerns of electoral malpractice grow with every hour results fail to appear on the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV).

On Monday afternoon, agents of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and other parties walked out of the national collation centre for Saturday’s presidential election in Abuja after complaining about INEC’s failure to transmit results.

The current situation differs from Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman’s statement to political parties on October 26 in Abuja.

During a meeting with parties, Yakubu said, “Let me once again reassure Nigerians that there is no going back on the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for voter accreditation. There is no going back on the transmission of results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) in real-time on election day.

“There will be no incident form that enables ineligible persons to vote using other people’s Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) during elections. We are committed to ensuring that the 2023 General Election is transparent and credible, reflecting the will of the Nigerian people.”

FIJ, on Sunday, found that 24 hours after the election was conducted, no geopolotical zone in the country had up to 50 percent of its results uploaded to the portal.
