Adachukwu Chukelu-Okafor, the Anambra lawyer who allegedly brutalised her 10-year old housekeeper, Happiness, has been remanded by the Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court sitting at the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Awka, Anambra.

According to The PUNCH, the self-confessed “lover of God”, who surrendered herself to the Anambra Police Command in Awka weeks after brutalising her housekeeper, was arraigned on two counts.

The PUNCH also reported that the two counts border on willful infliction of physical injuries on the body of one Happiness Nwafor, an offence punishable under Section 4(1) of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition and Protection) Laws of Anambra State of Nigeria 2017.

FIJ had reported how Adachukwu allegedly molested Happiness by inserting a hot knife in the little girl’s private parts and using a hot pressing iron to burn her buttocks. The injuries inflicted on Happiness landed her in the hospital.

FIJ also reported that the Minister of Women Affairs placed a N2 million reward on anyone who could provide information that could lead to Adachukwu’s arrest by the police.

FIJ learned from Calvin, a neighbour of Happiness’ guardian, Ifeoma Moghalu, that Happiness had been discharged from the hospital.

After the charge against Adachukwu was read in court, the Anambra lawyer pleaded not guilty. Chijioke Nwankwo, the defendant’s counsel, applied for bail but the court refused him.

The case has been adjourned until February 28, 2024.
