Seven months ago, Damilola, a journalist based in Lagos, paid N153,400 for a Lagos-Anambra round trip with Air Peace, a Nigerian airline, but could not fly because the airline would not confirm his payment. To date, he has yet to be refunded.

Damilola, who wants to be identified only by his first name, told FIJ that he wrote several times to the airline company but to no avail.

He said that on October 7, he transferred the flight fare of N153,400 via ATM to a Fidelity Bank account sent to him by Air Peace and was debited for it by Access Bank, his bank, immediately.

“After I met Air Peace the same day I paid, they claimed they had not received my payment confirmation. I waited for a while before booking another flight; still, I got no confirmation,” Damilola told FIJ.

“Air Peace told me they had issues with Fidelity Bank that same day, which was why I was patient, but later on, they asked me to go to my bank. And when I did, they informed me that the transaction was successful.

“I have waited for many more days now, but I still do not have my money. Air Peace keeps giving me the runaround by assuring me every day that they will get back to me. It is now seven months, and I don’t know what to do. They don’t respond to me.”

FIJ first contacted Air Peace on October 24 for comments on the matter via email, but the airline did not respond. FIJ also contacted Air Peace two separate times after October 24, but they did not respond at any point. When FIJ contacted Fidelity Bank, they asked the source to provide details of the transaction.
