Following the release, activists have condemned how Tunde was tortured while in detention.

Omoyele Sowore, a Nigerian activist, shared pictures showing how Tunde was battered and bruised in detention. “Battered, Bruised but Unbroken! Tunde Abass has been freed from @PoliceNG custody, he was detained for filming police brutality. Thanks everyone for weighing in, may you never walk alone during this era of tyranny,” Omoyele said.

Reacting to Omoyele’s post, Akitude Temitope said: “This is the kind of police brutality that birthed #EndSARS protest. Tunde Abass was beaten blue-black, given a red eye, tortured and serrated for filming criminal police. Nothing can stop the second wave of EndSars.”
