Jumia has made a refund of N197,200 to Felix Oluwatobi Olowokere, a customer who experienced a payment error while trying to order a laptop from the online shopping platform in March.

Olowokere confirmed receipt of the refund to FIJ on Monday.

“I just received the credit alert indicating a refund of my money from Jumia a minute ago,” an excited Olowokere said.

“I thank FIJ for coming to my aid by publishing the story. The day FIJ published the story, Jumia started calling and texting me. That evening, representatives from the online outfit called to apologise, promising to initiate a manual refund to me.

“They told me to wait for three working days to process the manual refund. So, I was expecting the money to come in on Friday. When I did not receive the refund on Friday, I feared they were giving me empty promises as usual.”

Olowokere told FIJ that a senior staffer from Jumia later called to also apologise and reassure him of the refund.

“A senior representative from Jumia called me on Friday and Monday. During our conversations, he explained that they experienced a technical glitch and this resulted in the delay. Jumia sent my refund a few minutes later,” Olowokere said.

On May 24, FIJ reported how Olowokere, an Ibadan-based student, ordered for a laptop worth N197,200 but encountered an error while making payment on the platform.

The student said he then had to wait endlessly for Jumia to refund the money back to him but they refused to.
