Victor Akinsola, a Lagos-based laboratory scientist, has accused Wallets Africa, a financial technology firm, of holding on to his money without giving him value or allowing him access to a service.

Akinsola told FIJ that the company has continued to hold on to his N6,000 since September 6 without allowing him to enjoy the service that prompted him to use their application.

The scientist said the issue has been on for a while, and that Wallets Africa has continued to ask him to exercise patience without proffering any solution.

“After I downloaded the Wallets Africa app, I submitted the details required of me before depositing N6,000. Since then, I have not heard from them,” Akinsola said.

“They have continued to ask me to be patient, which I have always been. But after giving them some time, they still have not come up with a solution.”

Victor's chat with Wallets Africa via Twitter

He said he also contacted Wallets Africa on Twitter, Instagram, and the special chat section on their application, but got no response.

“I sent them messages everywhere – Twitter, Instagram, and on their app – but got no response from them. It was when I was doing some checks on Twitter that I realised they had been running a shady business,” he said.

“I was only trying to get a dollar card to make a transaction on Apple Music, but now my money is stuck.”

FIJ made several phone calls to Wallets Africa via its official line but they were not responded to. A text message sent to the software company had also not been responded to at press time.
