Five students of the Federal University Dutsin Ma (FUDMA) in Katsina State who were kidnapped on October 3 have regained their freedom.
Armaya’u Hamisu-Bichi, the university’s vice chancellor, told journalists in Katsina that the students were released on Friday and were on their way to Abuja to meet with Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser.

“Today (Friday), with the help of God, the students have been released. The students are on their way home but would be taken to Abuja to meet the National Security Adviser, where they would also be taken to the hospital for medical checkup, after which they would be handed over to their families,” Hamisu-Bichi said.
“It was the efforts of the National Security Adviser. He knows the effort he made to ensure the release of the students. You know it’s a security issue, and we’ll not be making it public.”

Hamisu-Bichi claimed that no money was paid to secure the release of the abducted students despite saying only Ribadu knew about the efforts he made.
Reporters who visited the FUDMA after the abduction in October saw that the university students stayed off campus because of insecurity.
