Tamuno Dauda (not real name), an Ogun State resident, has detailed how OPay refused to make a refund of N36,133 to him after he was debited twice for a flight booking.

Speaking with FIJ, Dauda said he was debited for booking an Arik Air flight ticket using the fintech’s platform on December 17, 2021.

“I used OPay to book a flight ticket for my friend during the period, and while making payment, the financial institution’s platform experienced a downtime,” said Dauda.

“In the end, N36,133 was debited from my account but the flight booking was not successful.

“I had to make a second booking via the same platform, and thankfully, it was successful, and my friend was able to travel to his destination.

“After that day, I requested OPay to help me reverse the first transaction that failed, but they have been telling me it is receiving attention for over two years.”

Dauda told FIJ that he also reached out to Arik Air on the matter but was told to liaise with OPay for a resolution.

“OPay has refused to give me back my money. They keep saying they are working on my complaint. It’s quite funny to know that they have continued to work on my request for two years.”

FIJ sent an email to OPay’s customer care desk for comments on the matter on Wednesday, but it had not been responded to at press time.
