GUO Transport has refunded the passengers who paid additional N2,500 on January 5 after one of its buses developed a fault in Edo State.
Following a tip-off from Frank Ohiri, whose daughter was on the bus, FIJ reported how the passengers were extorted on Friday.
The bus was en route to Anambra State from the transport company’s Iyana Ipaja terminal in Lagos State when it malfunctioned in Edo.
The driver reportedly called a driver at GUO Transport’s Edo terminal who agreed to convey the passengers to the Asaba terminal, where another bus would take them to Anambra, as long as they paid N2,500 each.
A GUO Transport official told FIJ that such a demand was against the company’s policy and also added that the report would be investigated, when contacted for comments.
Barely 24 hours after FIJ published the report, GUO transport refunded the passengers and apologised for the incident.
While speaking with FIJ on Saturday, Ohiri said the transport company’s findings revealed that the bus contacted to convey passengers to Asaba terminal from Edo was not a GUO vehicle.

Ohiri said, “Keeping to their policy statement, they have refunded all the passengers, including my daughter, the extra N2,500 that was charged by the commercial driver.”
He also noted that the management called to apologise to all passengers for the extra charge and to show the company’s commitment to its customers.
“I received a call from the manager, Mr Bernard, between 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm, and he apologised for the extra charge.”
