Frank Ohiri, a Lagos State resident, has accused GUO Transport of extorting N2,500 from his daughter who already paid N19,000 on January 3 for a trip to Anambra State.
Ohiri told FIJ that he booked the trip online so his daughter could travel to Awka from the transport company’s Iyana Ipaja terminal in Lagos on January 5.
“The bus, with number FGG 800, left the terminal around 7:03 am on Thursday, but it developed some fault somewhere in Edo State,” he told FIJ.

According to Ohiri, the driver then contacted another driver at GUO Transport, who said he would convey the passengers to the company’s terminal in Asaba, Delta State.
“Then from the Asaba terminal, another bus would take them to Awka,” he said.
Each passenger had to pay an extra N2500 despite having paid for the full trip from the take-off point at GUO Transport’s terminal in Lagos
“Although I thank God she got home safely, it is unfair to pay an extra N2,500 for an incident that was neither my fault nor my daughter’s,” he said.
“The money was meant for my daughter’s feeding and intrastate transport. I want GUO management to refund my money,” Ohiri said.

When contacted for comments on Friday, GUO Transport told FIJ that charging passengers in such a situation was against the company’s policy.
“We will make our findings regarding this claim. This is against the policy of the company. Kindly send the booking details so we can work on it,” the customer care representative said.
