Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) comptroller general, has ordered a probe into the violation of ministerial directives on the new timeframe of passport issuance.

Adepoju disclosed this in a press release signed by Aridegbe Adedotun, the service’s public relations officer, on Friday.

“The comptroller general of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, pcc+, fsi, has received with deep concern some complaints of misconduct levelled against our personnel in some passport offices across the nation.

“The comptroller general has ordered an investigation into the matter, especially as regards to the noncompliance with ministerial directives on the timeline of passport administration,” the statement read in part.

This development follows FIJ’s report revealing the non-implementation of the minister’s two-week passport issuance directive at the immigration office in Alausa, Lagos State.

During a visit to the immigration office on October 11, FIJ sighted passport confirmation slips with collection dates as long as six months, in contradiction to the two-week timeline directive of Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the minister of interior, as well as the formerly held six-week timeline for the issuance of fresh passports.

FIJ also found that bribery was still the most prominent means to be assured of prompt service delivery.

As a result, the NIS has called on the general public to report any such misdemeanours to the service on +234 802 832 0751 and +234 806 776 1196.

Passport applicants have also been advised to avoid patronising individuals or entities that request cash payments for passport services.
