The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has reversed N27,400 out of the N39,400 deducted after a failed PoS transaction by Augustina Okafor, an Enugu-based retiree.
Okafor confirmed to FIJ that the refund was made on Wednesday evening.
“Thank you, FIJ,” she said. “UBA reversed part of the money on Wednesday.”

“I am grateful for your intervention. I was surprised to have received only N27,400. The bank said the other N12,000 was not with them.
“I don’t believe it because both transactions had the same status and I was debited the same way.”
On Monday, FIJ reported how Okafor’s N39,400 was deducted by the bank after two separate failed PoS transactions.
The retiree had perceived that the bank was playing games not to refund her.
“On February 28, I went to a PoS shop to withdraw some money,” Okafor told FIJ.
“After the agent initiated the transaction, the feedback was that ‘the transaction could not be completed’, but it debited my account.”
“On March 4, I returned to another PoS shop to withdraw because I was stranded.

“After the two failed transactions, I reached out to UBA’s support team but I could perceive they were stalling and using delay tactics.
The little pension funds I had been using to manage myself is what UBA is holding on to.”
However, a few days after FIJ’s intervention, part of the money was returned.
