Jerry Adeyemi (not real name), an Ibadan-based Agriculturist, has narrated how a total of N16,500 was debited from his GTBank account in April after failed transactions.
Adeyemi told FIJ he initially attempted to transfer N10,000 to a hospital because his wife was sick and needed to be admitted. Although he was debited, the hospital did not receive the money.
“After the initial debit alert, I tried repeating the transaction, but the GTBank app was not working that morning. My wife had to be admitted in the hospital based on recognition,” he told FIJ.

“The following day, April 25, I went to a restaurant called Kilimanjaro around Bodija in Ibadan. I had another declined transaction of N6500 on my GTB account. I had to repeat the transaction to be free,” he said.
Adeyemi told FIJ that after he was debited N6,500 for a failed transaction, he visited a GTBank branch to lodge complaints, and he received a text message saying his money would be reversed within three days.
“After the money failed to be reversed, I called GTB connect several times, but all I got were apologies without actions,” he said.
Again, I returned to the bank on May 9 to lodge fresh complaints at the customer care unit, and I was told I would get my money by May 12. Now, it’s over a month and all GT bank does is apologise and seek more time.

“This has caused my family and I great economical and non-economical damages I can’t start to explain.”
FIJ sent a message to Cornelius Onuoha, one of GTBank’s spokespersons, but he was yet to make comments as of press time.
