Ibrahim Adeyemi, a conflict and terrorism reporter with the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), has been shortlisted for the 2021 edition of the Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting.

In an announcement made on Saturday, Adeyemi was listed among 14 other finalists for his story titled, ‘Memoirs of Carnage’, a four-month-long investigation that revealed how Nigerian soldiers massacred over 50 villagers in Benue.

The judges selected the shortlist from 222 entries received during the call for applications, according to a statement released by the organisers on Saturday.

Other journalists in line for an award at a ceremony sheduled for December 9, the World Anti-Corruption Day and the eve of Human Rights Day, at NECA House, Alausa, Lagos are Abiodun Omotosho of Nigerian Pilot, Benedict Uwalaka of Daily Trust, Kelechukwu Ogu of Rhythm 93.7 FM and Kunle Adebajo of HumAngle. 

Mary Abayomi-Fatile of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Olatunji Obasa of Punch, Olukunle Akinrinade of The Nation, Omolabake Fasogbon of ThisDay, Sharon Ijasan of TVC News, Taiwo Adebayo of Premium Times, Tessy Igomu of Punch, Victor Asowata of The Will and Zainab Sanni of Agidigbo FM complete the list.

This is the second time in a row that Adeyemi would be shortlisted for the Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting. In December 2020, he was both first and second runner-up in the print category.
