Adedamola Oladapo, an online food vendor, has recounted how she was sexually harassed by hoodlums in the Kollington area of Alagbado, Lagos State, on April 28.

Oladapo told FIJ that she was on Sunmola street, a location very close to Kollington bus stop, when the hoodlums accosted her on the fateful day.

“It was around 8 pm. At that time, I was just coming from my mother’s shop. I just saw these guys move close to me, demanding to know what I had inside my bag. I was immediately scared,” Oladapo said.

“When I told them I had nothing on me, one of the hoodlums ordered me to follow them. I was a bit hesitant but had to follow them when he threatened to kill me if I did not. I didn’t know anybody on that street and the bus stop was still about five minutes away.”

The food vendor said she had no choice but to follow the hoodlums to a deserted location when she could not find anyone around to rescue her.

She explained that a member of the gang would then tell her to ‘submit’ her bag.

“They told me to submit my bag and other valuables but I refused. Then, one of them said, ‘Shey you no wan cooperate? We fit do anything wey we wan do with you now and nobody go know.’ I was already shivering. Immediately, I gave them N10,000 from the N10,500 I had with me,” she said.

“One of them, whom I assumed was the leader of the gang, would soon tell me to go. However, on my way out of the place, another member of the gang grabbed me by my arm and said, ‘why we wan let this one go? Make we test her work nah’.”

Oladapo said she immediately knelt before the member that had told her to go, pleading with him so he could once more intervene.

“The boss would tell his guys to let me go. He even said, ‘make nobody run follow am oh. Leave am, no be our food.’ Since I got home on Thursday, the trauma is still in my brain. I am yet to get over the sad experience.”

When FIJ asked Oladapo if she had reported to the police station, she said she had not been able to step out of her room since that day.
