The National Assembly has passed the Student Loan Bill.

The passage of the bill during plenary on Wednesday followed the consideration of a report of the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), presented by Mohammed Muntari, the senator representing Katsina South.

The bill aims to facilitate access to higher education for indigent Nigerians through interest-free loans from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELF) to provide education for all Nigerians.

The bill’s passage came days after the launch of the student loan scheme was suspended indefinitely.
