Mobolaji Obadara, a Lagos resident, has told FIJ how Kuda Microfinance Bank failed to refund his N40,000 after a failed order on January 1.
Obadara placed an order worth N40,000 for a pair of stereo earbuds on New Year’s Day, but Jumia cancelled his order four days later because it was out of stock.
On January 6, Jumia told Obadara that it had completed the refund process for his cancelled order.
“I placed this order on the first day of January, but they cancelled the order on January 5. The vendor did not have the item in stock anymore. Jumia told me that they had processed the payment of my refund on the 6th of January. I had already paid for the order using my bank card, and I haven’t got my money yet,” Obadara told FIJ on January 20.

“Please be informed that a proof of refund was shared with the customer (Mobolaji Obadara for the N40,000 he paid for a cancelled order of stereo earbuds on January 1, 2023.) The proof of refund was shared with him via his email exactly on January 21, 2023, at 10:07 am,” Jumia wrote to FIJ on Monday.
“Kindly refer the customer (Mobolaji Obadara) to check his mail for further information regarding the proof of refund.”
Obadara confirmed Jumia sent the proof of refund the previous Saturday and then directed him to his bank to inquire about the missing fund.
After receiving multiple mails, Kuda told Obadara that his complaint had been looked into, but Obadara is yet to receive his money from the bank.
FIJ sent a mail to Kuda, but the bank offered a ticket number and promised to respond within 48 hours. Three days after, Kuda has not responded.
