Obi Ochui, an Ogun State-based point of sale (POS) agent, has accused Opay of denying him access to his N62,653 because of an unfounded charge that he was into cryptocurrency.
Obi told FIJ that the fintech company had denied him access to his account since January 30.
According to Obi, he received a message from Opay that day informing him that his account had been temporarily disabled owing to a security concern, and that he should get in touch with his customer support.
“After receiving the notification, I contacted Opay’s customer support, who informed me that my account had been frozen because of allegations that I traded in cryptocurrency,” he said.
“I explained to the customer support team that I had never traded in cryptocurrency and had documentation to back up my status as a Moniepoint PoS agent.”
He told FIJ that the internal control team instructed him to send an email describing his duties and he did but didn’t get a response.
He noted that he sent more emails to Opay but the fintech company didn’t respond.
He claims that despite having all the information necessary to make the account a standard account, it was still locked.
FIJ contacted Opay’s spokesperson, Femi Hanson, on Tuesday, and a reply was sent that the account was restricted due to irregular transactions and that Solomon would be contacted to address the situation.
