Sexual assault remains one of the issues of gender violence all over the world. Lagos State took the bull by the horns in 2014 when Babatunde Fashola, the governor at the time, launched a public sex offenders register in the state ministry of justice to officially document data of sexual predators and make same public.

Since the launch, the register welcomed convictions of a number of sexual predators and published their information at various times. Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) published the first batch of the convicted on March 10, 2022, with a promise to continue doing so periodically as permitted by the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law.

An October 2022 report contained the details of another batch of offenders who were handed down life imprisonment sentence by the state high court. The latest publication, released on Tuesday, further increased the number of persons on the offender register.

Based on all these publications, FIJ compiled the offenders’ information, who are largely males, in this report.
