Terrorists shot and killed Reverend Amako Maraya of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) 2, Damakasuwa Chawai, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on Friday.

The terrorists also abducted Maraya’s wife.

Locals reported that Maraya was murdered by Fulani jihadists who had kept their Christian communities in Kauru under unreported siege for a while.

ECWA is one of the largest Protestant denominations in the country with over 6,000 parishes. In the 128 days spanning from March 4 to July 6, 55 violent attacks resulted in the death of at least 549 Christians in Nigeria.

The 2023 Persecutors of the Year report from the International Christian Concern (ICC) recently marked Nigeria as the worst place for Christians to live in.

ICC’s report, released in November, highlighted how those 55 targeted attacks that killed 549 Christians made Nigeria the most uninhabitable nation for Christians within the past year.

“Whether the world acknowledges the plight of Nigerian Christians or not, the country has become a burial ground for Christians,” the ICC stated.

“Nigeria is arguably the most dangerous place to be a Christian in the world today. In the North, a very hostile group of Muslim extremists have attacked and devastated the minority population of Christians.”
